Class Update


In Year 4, we have began our second topic ‘Sweet Tooth’ learning about chocolate and where the cocoa bean originated from. In our travels back in time, we learned about slavery and the importance of Fair Trade. With all this background knowledge we set ourselves the task of designing and making our very own chocolates. First, we made sure that we conducted some market research through surveys and then presented our data on the iPads. We will be making our own flavoursome chocolates over the next two weeks which will be sealed in our own chocolate boxes that we are currently designing and evaluating. All of this excitement is topped off with a trip to Cadbury World on Wednesday 6th December!

Our creatively made chocolates will be heading home with us nearer to Christmas. If you persuade us nicely you may get to try one!

In Maths, we have been extending our knowledge through learning about Multiplication and Division. We have been competitively practising our times tables through using games, songs and concrete materials. All of this practising has helped ensure that we make rapid progress in our multiplication and division skills.

In English, we began the half term looking at descriptive poetry where we learned to write our own chocolate box poem. We looked at grammar features such as adjectives, adverbs, personification and similes. All of these fantastic skills helped us in describing a tasty, succulent box of chocolates. We are now in the process of learning how to write a persuasive text to convince the owner of Cadbury World to sell our newly designed chocolates. We have been focusing on grammar skills such as fronted adverbials, rhetorical questions and adjectives to describe the chocolate. We sure do work hard in Year 4 and that is down to our fantastic team work and perseverance!
