Provision of PE and Sport at Woolden Hill Primary School

The school believes that physical education plays a vital role in contributing to a child’s physical and emotional development and well-being.

We aim to provide as many sporting opportunities as we can for all our pupils within the curriculum, extra-curricular activities and through competitions. Presently we offer a range different sports clubs within the school some of which include netball, football, rugby, basketball, multi- skills, fun and fitness, cricket, athletics, gymnastics and dance. We are also part of the South Charnwood PE network which provides many opportunities for children to visit other schools and take part in sporting events.

The school offers swimming lessons for children across key stage 2 . Our aim is for all children to achieve the National Curriculum expectations for swimming. Children may be offered catch up lessons to help them achieve this if necessary.

Woolden Hill received Sport Funding from the government to support and enhance the funding will enable the school to build on the quality of PE and sports provision throughout the school. Also, it will enable us to provide additional sporting opportunities for the children both in the curriculum and in extra-curricular activities and competitions. Part of this fund is also used to subsidise residential trips in Year 4 and Year 6. These trips help to broaden pupil’s experiences in Outdoor and Adventurous activities such as rock climbing, abseiling, canoeing, surfing and body boarding.

Long Term vision

Our long-term vision is to develop an enthusiasm and commitment to sport and physical activity for our children so that they have healthy bodies and minds. Pupils leave us wanting to try more at secondary school and having this desire is crucial to continue the skills that children have learnt with us.

Sporting recognition

Woolden Hill has been recognised for the commitment it makes in providing high quality outcomes for PE and Sport at the school. The school has achieved Sports Games Silver Award and is currently working towards Gold status.
